Nonunion Following Intramedullary Nailing of Femoral Shaft Fractures in Low Income Countries
نویسنده
چکیده
Incidence of femoral shaft fracture was 1.33 fractures per 10,000 people in the US in 1994 [1]. The annual incidence of midshaft femur fractures, as shown by a Swedish study is approximately 10 per 100,000 person-years in 2009 [2]. The incidence peaks among the young, decreasing after age 20, and then again in the elderly. The annual Incidence in different published series has increased at 10% per year. Etiology of fracture being motor vehicle accidents, fall from height and domestic accidents. However, the causes of Nonunion have never been analyzed well.

Injuries Associated with Femoral Shaft Fractures with Special Emphasis on Occult Injuries
Background: Fractures of the femoral shaft are mostly the result of high-energy accidents that also cause multiple trauma injuries, in particular ipsilateral knee and hip injuries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of injuries associated with femoral shaft fractures and how many of them were undetected. Methods: We studied 148 patients (150 femoral shaft fractures) wi...

PURPOSE To explore the possible surgical factors related with nonunion in femoral shaft fracture following intramedullary nailing. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed totally 425 patients with femoral shaft fracture in level I urban trauma center, including 254 males and 171 females, with an average age of 37.6 (ranging from 21 to 56) years old. The inclusion criteria included: (1) traumatica...
متن کاملComparing the Effect of Reamed Exchange Nailing and Augmentation Compression Plating in Treatment of Femoral Shaft Nonunion
Background and purpose: One of the most important complications of bone fractures is nonunion. This research aimed at comparing the effect of exchange nailing and plate augmentation on complications after surgery and the time to achieve desired outcomes. Materials and methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 12 femoral shaft nonunion cases treated operatively in 2011-2018 (...
متن کاملElastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing of Femoral Shaft Fracture-Experience in 48 Children
Background: Femoral shaft fractures are an incapacitating pediatric injury accounting for 1.6% of all pediatric bonyinjuries. Management of these fractures is largely directed by age, fracture pattern, associated injuries, built of the childand socioeconomic status of the family. We retrospectively evaluated the use of elastic stable intramedullary nail (ESIN)in surgical management of femoral s...

ABSTRACT In this retrospective study, we present our experience using open Küntscher nailing (K-nailing) which is still performed in developing countries for femoral fractures. Of 157 acute fractures treated between January 2003 and December 2009, 100 were stable (63.7%) and 135 were located within the middle third of the shaft (86%). Comminution was absent or minimal in 135 (86%) cases. Fractu...
